80:20 Procurement Services has announced a new version of its procurement technology ePro featuring key updates for existing clients.

Kim Smith, Global Business Improvement Manager at 80:20 Procurement Services, said: “We are delighted to launch a new version of ePro and deliver significant upgrades that will improve our clients’ processes and address key challenges they face as a business.

“At 80:20, we are committed to continually evolving our technology offering and working closely with all stakeholders to deliver leading procurement solutions.”

The new upgrades will deliver added functionality and enhance the overall user experience by allowing clients to set up purchasing subscriptions and repeat orders, kit orders and find items more efficiently with new advanced searching capabilities. Increased administrator access will also allow clients to change specific options and functionality of ePro with full visibility of users’ ordering and quotation requests.

Developed in 2010, the ePro system provides a single point of entry for all online catalogue ordering and requests for ad hoc quotations. It’s a proven procurement technology that integrates with client systems including SAP, Maximo and other systems.

80:20 Procurement Services is continually evolving its technology offering and future updates will include standardised integration, app upgrades and enhanced data analytics. The company is also working with manufacturers and suppliers to increase its catalogue and product offering in both the UK and US.

An exciting career opportunity has arisen for a Commercial Manager to join the 80:20 Procurement Services team in Aberdeen.

The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the contractual and commercial aspects of the business and supporting the growth efforts of the company among other duties.

Applicants should have at least five years’ experience in a similar role, a business degree or CIPS qualified and have previously worked in the maintenance, repair and operating (MRO) activities.

Callum Jones shares his 80:20 career story with us. Learn about his engaging role as a Customer Service Advisor with 80:20 and his desire to maintain good relationships with clients and suppliers.

What does your role involve?

As a customer service advisor, my role is to assist the buyers in the processing, placing and expediting of orders ensuring orders reach our clients on time and in good order.

How has your career progressed to where you are now?

My background until this role has been hospitality centred with a focus on hotel management. This has given me excellent customer service and organisational skills which serve me well in my new role. In my day to day work, we strongly rely on information sharing and working together to achieve our goals and targets. Thus, being able to communicate effectively with the team and clients in a personable manner and organising my workload and time is vital in my role to ensure that targets and due dates are met.

What has been the highlight of your career so far?

Working with the friendly and supportive team at 80:20 has definitely been a highlight. My role is very engaging and varied which means I am always learning something new.

What is something you are passionate about?

In my work life, I am passionate about maintaining good relationships with clients and suppliers and providing excellent and friendly customer service. In my spare time, I am a medieval reenactor which allows me to travel all over Scotland and along with my group educate the public by bringing history to life.

80:20 Procurement Services, a Peterson company specialising in procurement, has announced the appointment of Donald Macleod as Managing Director of US operations based in Houston, Texas.

Mr Macleod joins the company with over 20 years of industry experience and will oversee the growth of the business in the US market. He’s previously worked in senior roles for an international oil and gas operator and several service companies in the energy sector and holds an MBA degree from Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen, Scotland.

Congratulations to Bradley Strachan who recently completed his procurement apprenticeship with 80:20. Bradley reflects on his last few months as an apprentice, discusses industry trends in procurement, and describes the most interesting purchase he has made for a client.

How has your apprenticeship been going over the last few months?

Working from home for the past nine months has had its challenges, but with the use of software such as Microsoft Teams, I have been able to continue to learn and keep in regular contact with my colleagues and my training provider.

What industry trends or challenges are you seeing in procurement?

One industry trend is that clients are actively looking to reduce their Approved Vendors List to make their tail-spend more manageable. This can be a real challenge for some clients, however, 80:20 has been assisting clients across all industries to reduce costs and increase efficiency in their procurement processes.

What is the most interesting or unique purchase you completed?

I think the most interesting purchase I’ve had to make is a five-to-seven-person hot tub for one of our clients. One of the great things about working in procurement is that every day is different, and you never know what you may have to source.

What has been the highlight of your time with 80:20 over the last few months?

My highlight from the last few months is that I have now completed my apprenticeship having submitted my final unit a couple of weeks ago.

Do you have any goals that you would like to achieve going forward?

Having completed my apprenticeship, I’m looking forward to the next steps to further my career in procurement with 80:20. I aim to take on new responsibilities and put myself forward for any internal or external training that becomes available to further my professional development.

Next up for our people profile, we have Key Account Manager Craig Jennings from our Aberdeen office. Craig shares how he landed his role with 80:20, what it’s like being a procurement professional supporting global clients and some of the new skills he’s learned during the lockdown. 

Tell us about how you secured a job with 80:20.  

Six years ago, I was looking to make a change and identified 80:20 as a procurement company I wanted to work for. I went ahead and sent a cold email to the Managing Director Paul Dorward asking for an interview. It took a bit of persistence and determination however after keeping in touch for several months, Paul agreed to a meetingI went on to join 80:20 as a Senior Buyer and have since progressed to my current role supporting clients as their Key Account Manager. 

What does your role involve? 

I work closely with clients looking after their global procurement needs to ensure we help achieve their business objectives, deliver a valuable service and all work is carried out safely.  

Working for 80:20 has been rewarding and allowed me the opportunity to travel meeting clients and visiting their facilities around the worldI remember once my colleague and I decided to drive from the Netherlands to Germany for meeting and on the return trip, we got lost for a few hours driving around Langenhagen! 

What do you enjoy the most about your job? 

As a procurement professional, there is no better feeling than closing a sale. From the initial enquiry to negotiating and finally receiving that purchase order, it’s very satisfying completing a transaction for your client. 

Have you learned any new skills during the lockdown? 

From a professional perspectiveI’ve enhanced my multitasking skills. Working from home and managing family life can be challenging but we’ve managed to cope quite well. My two-year-old will sometimes join client calls and their kids get involved as wellwhich makes work seem a little less like work.  

I’ve also been busy afterhours refurbishing our house which overlooks the harbourSo far, I’ve been involved in sanding, painting and minor demolition work. It’s a lot of effort but we’re taking it one floor at a time and look forward to finalising the project in the near future.
