80:20 were formed in 2004 with the aim of adding real value to a previously neglected area of the Supply Chain through novel procurement product offerings.

Having previously held senior procurement positions and developed procurement strategies for a number of organisations across a range of industries Paul Dorward and Tony Bannon the company founders recognised that the tail of the supply chain was not being managed effectively.

The two directors were the 1st in Scotland and the 1st in the Oil and Gas Industry to deliver the prestigious CIPS (Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply) Organisational Certification Excellence in Procurement Policies and Procedures (PPP). This programme is an established benchmark of excellence in organisational procurement competence. Certification ensures that an organisation maintains 'best in class' procurement standards and delivers benefits to customers bottom line year on year.

80:20 now specialise in managing the the 'tail of the Supply Chain' an area which is often ignored but can when managed correctly yield significant savings.

80:20 started life as a consultancy company but after encouragement from clients there are now two discrete and interlinking elements to the business.

  • Outsource Procurement - Supplying the complete range of low value consumables and 'one off' supplies, using unique commercial models, and e-commerce to improve the ordering process. We effectively use our skills to manage the 'Tail of the Supply Chain'.
  • Procurement Consultancy - Offering a range of tools to provide sustainable added value to clients. This can range from a complete Strategic Overview where no procurement expertise exists to individual assignments where customer resources are limited.

in December 2012 a substantial stake of 80:20 was purchased by fellow Aberdeen firm Peterson SBS. Peterson believe the purchase will allow 80:20 to develop, enhance and improve its existing procurement and material management service across the UK and now internationally.

Since the companies beginnings in 2004 it has reached annual sales of £10million with only 20 employees. 80:20 continues as a standalone business, with directors Paul Dorward and Tony Bannon continuing their posts, as well as all staff

On improvements and growth within 80:20, Director Tony Bannon explained,

"During the last 8 eight years, 80:20 has grown considerably and our next step is to expand internationally. We are currently working with Peterson on opportunities in Europe, the Middle East and Asia. By utilising the existing Peterson network, we have been able to significantly reduce the set-up costs associated with entering a new country and enabled us to hit the ground running. The anticipated growth in the business will result in us increasing our staff members."
